Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars play their home games at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. The American Airlines Center has a capacity of 18,532 when used for Dallas Stars games with up to 19,099 with standing room. The Dallas Stars were originally the Minnesota North Stars and started play in the NHL in 1967. In 1978, the North Stars were bought by the owners of the Cleveland Barons another NHL franchise and the merged and continued as the Minnesota North Stars. The merger gave the Stars a solid group of talented players which helped them to reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1981. The North Stars fell to the New York Islanders in five games.

In 1990, after declining attendance and the teams inability to secure a new arena, the team requested a move to San Francisco. The NHL rejected the move and instead gave San Jose an expansion franchise. Ironically, the following season the North Stars made it to the Stanley Cup Finals and lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After the 1991 season, the teams financial woes worsened among increased speculation that the team would be moving. The NHL agreed to allow the team to move to Dallas in 1993. In Dallas, the team started to enjoy immediate success both on the ice and as a franchise. The team won 4 division titles, 2 presidents cups and 1 Stanley Cup in the 1990's.

The Dallas Stars roster has been home to some great players over the years, Hall of Famers Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk and Brett Hall as well as team captains Mark Tinordi, Neal Broten, Derian Hatcher, Mickey Mickeo, Brenden Morrow and Jami Benn.
