But that's exactly what happened on April 3 when an FC Virginia Under-17 squad traveled to the famed Coverciano, the training ground and headquarters of the Italian Football Association, in Florence, Italy, to play against the Italian women's U-17 national team.

    The spring edition of ScrimmageFest, an event hosted by the Club Champions League for U-9 and U-10 teams, is being played this weekend at SYA Sports Park in Centreville, Va. A total of 82 teams from 11 CCL clubs – Arlington Soccer, BRYC, DC Stoddert, Loudoun Soccer, McLean YS, Maryland United FC, Potomac SA, SYA, Annandale United FC, FC Frederick and SOCA – will play four 30-minute games each, 7v7 on small-sided fields. Often described as an organized version of street soccer, there are no official stoppages, substitution limits or referees.

    The U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team defeated archrival Mexico 3-0, behind goals from Mario Rodriguez, Christian Dean and Jordan Morris at StubHub Center. The win was the second-straight for the U-23 MNT over its Mexico counterpart, after the USA won 2-0 in the last matchup between the two nations on Feb. 29, 2012.
