Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche is a NHL franchise based in Denver, Colorado. The Avalanche play in the Western Conference and are members of the Central Division. Colorado Avalanche games are played at the Pepsi Center. Pepsi Center tickets for the Colorado Avalanche are available at

The Colorado Avalanche was founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques and played in the World Hockey Association. They become part of the NHL in 1979 as part of the NHL-WHA merger. The team continued to play in Quebec until it was sold to the COMSAT Entertainment Group. Following the the 1994-95 season the team relocated to Denver are were renamed the Colorado Avalanche. In their first season in Colorado, the Avalanche won the Pacific Division an went on to sweep the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Avalanche became the first NHL team to win a Championship in the first season following a relocation and the championship was the first for any Denver based sports team across all 4 of the major U.S. professional sports leagues. The Avalanche won their second Stanley Cup Championship in 2001.
