    Man in jail for alleged kidnapping and assault a deadly weapon

    - An Indio man is in jail for an alleged kidnapping dating back to July 2014 and for an assault with a deadly weapon investigation on September 18. The Coachella Valley Gang Task Force served a search warrant in the 49-100 block of Summer Street in Coachella Thursday morning. Police said Cano had an active warrant for a kidnapping case on July 17, 2014 in Palm Springs. He was transported to the Riverside County Jail in Indio and was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and felony kidnapping warrant.

    An Indio parolee pleaded not guilty Wednesday to killing a Palm Desert man and leaving his body in a burning vehicle last month. Andrew John Muir, 27, was arraigned at the Larson Justice Center on charges of murder, kidnapping and arson. Muir was taken into custody in the 46200 block of Calhoun Street on Sept. The firefighters who doused the flames discovered the body of a man, later identified as 38-year-old Mathew Cupit of Palm Desert. He is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

    Man Charged in Coachella Shooting, Carjacking

    Prosecutors filed criminal charges Friday against a 21-year-old man accused of shooting a woman during a carjacking earlier this month. Alejandro Flores Magana of Coachella pleaded not guilty to charges of carjacking, assault with a gun and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm during a hearing at the Larson Justice Center. To a report of a shooting and carjacking in the 53500 block of Harrison Street, Northrup said. 6 for a felony settlement conference.

    A California state watchdog says the state government should move immediately to prevent an economic and environmental disaster caused by the decline of the Salton Sea. The region's economy will suffer and migratory birds will die or leave.
