    Beat the winter blues at the Life Centre music fundraiser on March 7. Local artists will perform country gospel and electric blues band Seed will play songs from the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and BB King, said a news release. Proceeds will go to the Life Centre's programs, which provide food and community for 500 to 600 people each week.

    "We Are The Music Makers," featuring exhibit panels and artifacts from lesser-known blues, jazz, and bluegrass artists, will be on display at The Earl Scruggs Center until May 2. The exhibit is part of the nonprofit Music Maker Relief Foundation, traveling the U.S. as museums pay for it to be temporarily displayed.

    Gaz Coombes' songwriting has certainly grown in depth and maturity since he first entered the public's consciousness twenty years ago as the bewhiskered frontman of infectious Britpop combo Supergrass. "Matador" is the second Coombes solo album to see the light of day since his former outfit's sad demise in 2010 and this home produced effort is certainly an impressive piece of work, with the multi-talented musician creating the bulk of the instrumental backdrop for fine tracks such as "The Girl Who Fell To Earth," "The English Ruse" and the epic "To The Wire."

Scruggs Center collections curator Annmarie Reiley-Kay said some of the money is used to help impoverished artists who are featured.
