    Tickets are on sale for Shemekia Copeland's Holiday Party, a live concert presented by Paul Benjamin Productions and the Strand Theatre, set for Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand, 345 Main St. The young singer's soulful street sound and powerful voice have earned her two Grammy nominations; headline billing at numerous festivals including her hometown's Chicago Blues Festival; and stage appearances with Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton. General admission tickets are $20.

    The blues had a baby, and they named him Joe Bonamassa. At the ripe young age of 12, he opened for B.B. King, then he came under the tutelage of the late blues/jazz impresario Danny Gatton as a teenager, won scores of Best Guitarist accolades all along the way, and has since stood toe to toe with the likes of Eric Clapton and Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, and formed the Black Country Communion superquartet with onetime Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes, drum legacy/phenom Jason Bonham, and keyboard whiz Derek Sherinian.

    A supporter of local disability charity Diverse Abilities, Nivek Kerley, is holding an all-day Blues music festival on Saturday 8 November, at the Hamworthy Club in Wimborne, from 12 noon to 11pm. All funds raised from ticket sales and a raffle at the event, will be going to the charity's special school, Langside.

King, often ranked as one of modern music's greatest guitarists, still plays some 100 shows a year but he stopped a performance in Chicago on October 3 and was diagnosed with dehydration and exhaustion.     BB King , who recently turned 89, has had his share of problems continuing to play live in his very old age, so it's not that surprising that earlier this month this message was posted to his Facebook: Mr. King did not feel well enough to continue his performance last night, Oct 3, 2014, at the House of Blues in Chicago. He was immediately evaluated by a doctor and diagnosed with dehydration and suffering from exhaustion whereby causing the eight remaining shows of his current tour to be cancelled.

    It's about to be a happy homecoming for the tireless Americana bands of New Orleans! On Friday, October 17, locals Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Deslondes, Coyotes, MUSA, and others will take the stage at the Joy Theater for a free show after returning from a busy spring and summer of touring across the United States. The event is the first in a monthly series called "This Is NOLA," an effort by Winter Circle Productions and the Joy Theater to showcase the newest sights, tastes, and sounds of New Orleans.
